ACCUNURSE® VOICE-ASSISTED CARE TAKES INTERACTIVE CARE DELIVERY TO NEW LEVELS WITH REAL-TIME 802/672 REPORTS AND A UNIQUE APPROACH TO MOOD AND BEHAVIOR

Resident-specific interventions and on-the-fly tips take quality care to new levels

PITTSBURGH, OCTOBER 6, 2008 - Vocollect Healthcare Systems, Inc. announces that AccuNurse voice-assisted care now includes automated reporting functionality for the CMS-802 and CMS-672 reports as well as interactive care delivery for MDS Section E, Mood and Behavior. The addition of the automated CMS-802 and CMS-672 reports enables long-term care facilities to generate the reports on-demand with real-time ADL information, helping them to be better prepared for the annual survey process. Never before in the industry have reports with real-time ADL information been available. With regard to mood and behavior, AccuNurse offers another industry first by incorporating resident-specific interventions as well as on-the-fly tips to help caregivers properly code mood and behavior-related documentation.

As industry insiders know, the CMS-802 and CMS-672 reports are crucial to long-term care facilities because they are requested by surveyors when they arrive onsite for annual survey. The CMS-802 report is a roster/sample matrix, which is a surveyor’s tool for collecting the mandatory resident status data on the first day of the survey process. This report may also be used for recording information while the surveyors are onsite. A facility is required to provide the CMS-802 report by the end of the surveyor’s initial tour. Another critical piece of the survey process, the CMS-672 form (Resident Census and Conditions of Residents), must be provided to a surveyor by the facility within 24 hours of the survey process.

In addition to the annual survey process, facilities use the CMS-802 and CMS-672 reports for ongoing quality assurance to measure their clinical outcomes and identify trends. The information is especially valuable for identifying potential problem areas before a survey. AccuNurse’s ability to now provide automated reporting functionality for these two forms is a perfect complement to a facility’s proactive care programs.

In addition to the new reports, AccuNurse voice-assisted care now includes mood and behavior functionality. In AccuNurse, mood and behavior-related interventions are customizable for each resident. For example, custom interventions for dementia residents who find comfort in specific activities or responses can be added to the system and sent directly to the ears of caregivers to provide truly personalized care. Also, if a caregiver is documenting verbal expressions of distress, but the caregiver isn’t sure if the resident made self-deprecating comments, the caregiver can ask AccuNurse for help to get examples of what a self-deprecating comment might be. This real-time guidance leads to more personalized care for residents and also to greater MDS coding accuracy.

Additionally, AccuNurse enables caregivers to document mood and behavior-related occurrences as close as possible to when they actually happen. Caregivers simply talk to document the occurrences as they take place, as opposed to waiting until later in the shift to capture the information. AccuNurse also provides caregivers with the ability to immediately page a supervisor when questions arise - so specific questions about care needs or how to code an item in Section E never have to go unanswered.

“Now more than ever, AccuNurse voice-assisted care enables caregivers to achieve better communication, better quality of care, and even better reporting,” said James Quasey, president of Vocollect Healthcare Systems. “Our unique approach to mood and behavior and the automated reporting functionality for the CMS-802 and CMS-672 reports are our latest responses to our user community. We asked for their feedback as to what would make them more productive and effective. We responded by developing this unique report generation capability, freeing up even more time for direct resident care.”
