VOCOLLECT HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS LAUNCHES ACCUNURSE® VERSION 2.0

Enhancements for Long-Term Care Facilities Enable More Proactive Care and Help Maximize Reimbursement Opportunities

PITTSBURGH, OCTOBER 8, 2007 - Vocollect Healthcare Systems, Inc. announces the launch of AccuNurse Version 2.0, for voice-powered, point-of-care documentation, communication and proactive care specifically for the long-term care (LTC) industry.

The enhanced features of AccuNurse derived directly from user feedback generate significant new benefits for LTC facilities, chief among them:

  • Maximized reimbursement. With AccuNurse 2.0, Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scores are now calculated daily, giving LTC facilities a tool to maximize reimbursement opportunities.
  • More proactive care. With AccuNurse 2.0, caregivers are alerted to potential issues directly at the point of care. For example, when weighing a resident, if the weight a caregiver speaks is lower than expected, AccuNurse will prompt the caregiver to re-weigh the resident immediately. Also, caregivers can now hear scheduled reminders for appointments, turning/positioning and toileting.
  • Up to the minute information caregivers need on demand. Incorporating input from LTC industry professionals has resulted in an extremely intuitive and user-friendly system. Caregivers equipped with the new pocket-sized AccuNurse Voice Assistant™ and an ultra-light headset can get access to specific resident information anywhere in the facility in just a few words.  New personal voice profiles accommodate any accent.  Supervisory and support staff can pull up a wide variety of real-time reports through a new, intuitive, web-based application.
  • Reports that demonstrate credibility to surveyors. Skin integrity reporting has been dramatically improved in that nurses can efficiently review progress of wounds and treatment effectiveness. This is important to state surveyors, looking for ways a facility has a handle on QI/QM for wounds.

UPMC Canterbury Place, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is just one site using AccuNurse 2.0; and, according to Steve Welhorsky, executive director, the benefits are significant. “AccuNurse voice-assisted care is very efficient, clear and comprehensive. It enables our team of 50+ CNAs to ensure complete and accurate documentation at the point of care, especially with the enhanced features of Version 2.0. We get accuracy like never before to maximize our reimbursement impact in MDS reporting.  The reminders and alerts functionalities help us further improve quality of care and overall experience for residents. For example, if resident weights aren’t coinciding with previous documentation, it prompts us to re-weigh; and, if turning/positioning and toileting are required at certain times, then AccuNurse prompts our care team that those activities need to occur at specific times to meet the custom needs of each resident.”

In addition to the quality of care benefits, UPMC Canterbury Place is also seeing a renewed sense of excitement within its care team. “I have seen a change in employee morale overall. AccuNurse provides our staff with a whole different way of doing their jobs and they are excited to come to work and use voice-assisted care. It makes their jobs more focused and eliminates the cumbersome pencil and paper documentation that used to hinder productivity.”

“For long term care facilities looking to increase reimbursements and lower operating costs, AccuNurse voice-assisted care empowers staff with the fastest, easiest and most accurate way of delivering quality care - simply by talking,” said Jim Quasey, president of Vocollect Healthcare Systems. “The enhanced features of AccuNurse Version 2.0 are derived from our user community, who told us which features were most important in enabling them to do their jobs better. We listened and delivered on our promise to help them improve quality of resident care, reduce operating costs, and maximize reimbursements so they get the revenue they deserve.”
